A Salute to the Teardrop

Today, guest blogger (and my honey!) Dana agreed to post on the emmiebean blog. I am thrilled to say he is my very first guest blogger, and I hope that he will not be my last! ;) Read on to hear about our mutual love of the retro teardrop trailer... 

  

"Lately, Sadie and I have been taking on a lot of fun DIY projects.  We've been building our own desks, painting and remodeling our apartment, and starting to landscape our little yard space.  But, if there has been one (near future) project I have been swooning over recently, it is our teardrop trailer planning.  I have always loved teardrop trailers, especially the 1960's micro-"caravanettes" originally designed to be pulled by tiny olden day cars.  Although I love tent camping, especially cold/wet/windy weather can make even the most amazing trip less enjoyable.  There's something so exciting to me about the idea of hitching up one of these little guys and setting out on the open road. Here's my salute to teardrop trailers, old and new, small and smaller."

  

Ciao Isetta!

In honor of our impending road trip up HWY 1, I thought I'd feature one of the cutest cars ever made: the BMW Isetta!

Created in the early '50s by a small Italian company, the Isetta's design was envisioned as a complete hodgepodge, combining the look of two scooters, a refrigerator, and a teardrop trailer. The Isetta is only 7.5 feet long and has just one door that opens forwards. And although car aficionados can currently only purchase Isetta kits and replicas, there have been rumors that a new version of the Isetta is slated for release in 2010.

 

Another reason I love this car? Steve Urkel drove one in Family Matters. And although his lady friend doesn't look all that impressed, I consider the Isetta to be a true chick magnet.

Welcome, welcome to the new emmiebean blog! I can't tell you how excited I am to start this humble blog and how overdue it truly is. For some time now, I've been looking for a way to further connect with my fellow Etsy community and what better way to do this than to join the blogosphere at large! I plan to use emmiebean to chronicle a time in my life that is full of new beginnings and uncharted territory. After just making a *HUGE* cross-county move (a whole 7 miles down the road!) I plan to share my own attempts at creating a cozy living space for myself, my favorite partner in crime, and my wondrous feline companion, Emma, for which my Etsy shop emmiebean was aptly named. I'll also talk art & design, funny finds, adventures in crafting and handywomanship, meanderings, ponderings, and anything else that abounds!
