The New Rhiannon?

So, of course, I've been listening to Stevie Nicks's new album, In Your Dreams, on repeat for the last day. In a word: Enchanting. Everything a girl could ask for from the wild-haired songstress. One of my favorite songs on the album is Moonlight, which the singer says she wrote about "the love stories between monsters, gods, and humans." She dedicated the song to Edward and Bella. haha! Now for those of you who know what a huge dork I am (as if this post wasn't enough of an indication), I may have done a little happy dance when I heard that. I Die.

Stevie's video for "Secret Love" was released today. Note the end where she disappears in a poof! of sparkles. That woman is such an enchantress. Cannot wait for the release of her new album on May 3rd. I feel like bottles will have to be popped and candles lit on that special night!

I'm Not Dead!

 

Sorry to all my lovely friends and family who have called me over the last week only to find me M.I.A.! I've been racing around trying to get my newest venture, DearEmmie off the ground! And I am pleased to announce, today was the official opening of the new shop!! Hooray! 

As many of you know, the idea to start a new paper goods shop has been in the making for a while. A lot of careful planning and creating went into making it happen, and as of today, all of the DearEmmie ducks finally got into a row :)

More prints will go up in the shop over the next week, but for now, I will leave you with the first three prints to make a debut:

Song for Nocturnals Like Me

Cleaning out my walk-in on a Saturday night (such a fast-paced life I lead) and this song just came on. I love Grace Potter & The Nocturnals because they're fun and perfect for a girl who thinks of herself as a bit of an *ahem* ass-kicker from time to time, which I do ;)

Badgers!!! This find is for Dana, as he is slightly obsessed with badgers. It all started when we watched The Fantastic Mr. Fox, I believe. Badger is played by Bill Murray, one of our favorite actors, so badgers were sort of a no-brainer after that.

I love the way Mandolin sounds, so I'm hoping this Modolin has a similar sweet sound. For the creative (and a little bit nutty) musician, celentanowoodworks will create a custom instrument just for you. They have instruments shaped like cupcakes, apples, snails, you name it.

The Dog Days Are Over

Love this weirdy video for "Dog Days" by Florence and the Machine. I sort of imagine this is what the inner workings of my mind would look like. But maybe minus the creepy forest clowns.

Owly

Last summer when Dana and Mollie and I took our road trip to the Portland Zoo, we saw this tiny, funny owl that we all fell instantly in love with. She was in a cage with a much bigger owl (at least three times her size), but she seemed to hold her own just fine. 

 

Since meeting this oddbird, I have had a special affection for owls and find them to be fascinating and adorable things. 

I usually don't run out to see any of the new animated films that Pixar puts out once a month (I have actually never even seen a movie in 3D) but when I saw the preview for the new kiddy movie about a group of talking owls, I figured I might drag Dana to see it. Have any of you heard good things about Legend of the Guardians?

Jenny and Johnny

Oh how I am loving the new Jenny and Johnny record, I'm Having Fun Now. 

It is not news that I am deeply and madly in love with Jenny Lewis's voice, fashion sense, and general cuteness, but I recently started listening to Johnathan Rice and was pleasantly surprised to find he is basically the guy version of Ms. Lewis. No surprise there, as they not only share songwriting credits, but a bed together ;)

 

I would definitely recommend picking up this first album from the duo. Listen to two of my favorite songs off of I'm Having Fun Now: Big Wave and Just Like Zeus.

Shout It Out

Why yes, I love Hanson, and I don't care who knows it. 

I find myself saying these words often to new friends, who look at me blankly, mouths open, with both amazement and slight disgust. It's funny that after fifteen years of loving these three scruffy-haired boys, I still find myself vehemently defending my status as a Hanson fan, despite their truly talented songwriting abilities and wide critical acclaim. Now I am by no means a U2 fan, but even Bono has called them "genius." That's got to mean something, right? I think the Hanson stigma comes from people still knowing only of their "MMMBop" days, rather than their more recent six (the last three, truly excellent) albums that have classified them as one of the better Soul/Blues/Pop bands out there. And damn, they are still way too cute for their own good.
